Google+ now lets you disable comments and sharing on your posts before they go live. Before, these options were available after you posted something. We're all glad that Google figured out it makes more sense to provide this feature before sending a post live.

Minimizing the amount of spam that comes through our emails and phones can be done with our tips listed below:

1. Instead of paying for a an anti-spam service, use BumpUP CMS which has a built-in, automatic learning anti-spam tool.

2. Don't use email addresses like sales@company.com or info@company.com because spam knows to look for accounts like these. Be creative.

3. When you get spam phone calls, tell the caller "Please permanently remove me from your calling list." The company has to, by law, stop calling you.

4. Just be smart. Think twice before you give your email or phone number out.

A recent study shows that posting from one of the top then third-party API’s gives you nearly 90% fewer comments and likes. A lot of third-party apps are posting updates on a schedule rather than immediately as well not populating every aspect an update from Facebook’s interface will do. So with all of that in mind, it’s recommended that you steer away from third-party social media management apps – at least Facebook’s.

Instead of blocking or having to delete someone from your friends list, Google+ now lets you ignore them, which will achieve three things. First, it removes all of that person’s posts from your “Incoming” stream. Second, you’ll no longer get notifications about that person’s activity. And third, it will remove that person from your Circles page. That user won’t be notified that he or she is being ignored.

Ignoring will allow that user to view your stream and comment on it. Blocking that user will eliminate their posts from your stream and block them from seeing anything you post.

Google claims we’ll see 16 games on Google+ in the up and coming weeks and months including Angry Birds, Bejeweled Blitz, Diamond Dash, Crime Cities and Poker. Google says that they will only be taking a 5% cut out of the developer’s pay for transactions that take place on their platform were Facebook takes 30%. Considering that there are currently 25 million users on Google+ verses 750 Million on Facebook and the games are in Flash, we think 5% is a pretty smart tactic at getting developers to bring their games over to Google’s platform without much risk.

The controversy began Tuesday after Randall Safara, Google’s spokesperson, posted a video on Google+ that showed how Facebook was limiting the spread of Google+ invited on Facebook. The video showed Safara posting a Google+ invite on his Facebook page and proving that the invite was not appearing in his friend’s New Feed while also pointing out that his other posts were populating without any problems.

The funny thing is Google+ invites are working for everyone else so far. Google said yesterday that they hadn’t contacted Facebook directly about the conflict, but it’s obvious they’re taking it to the public first.

Last week, twenty year old Jordan Blackshaw and twenty-two year old Perry Sutcliffe-Keenan were arrested following the riots in London and the surrounding areas that began on August 6th. Blackshaw created an event on Facebook called “Smash Down” in Northwich Town that was set for August 8th. Only the police showed up to the meeting point outside a McDonalds as well as Blackshaw who was promptly arrested.

Sutcliffe-Keenan created a Facebook page called “The Warrington Riots” on August 9th. The page allegedly caused a wave of panic in the town and after Sutcliffe-Keenan arose the following morning, he removed the page and apologized to his 400 contacts claiming that the page was only a joke. Luckily, no riots broke out as a result.

The crackdown on social media organizing and orchestrating of disorder is strongly enforced in the United Kingdom. On Monday, a man was arrested for planning a water gun fight on BlackBerry Messenger and Facebook. Yes, a water gun fight! The UK is even going as far as to meet with representatives from Facebook and BlackBerry maker Research in Motion to discuss prevention of individuals targeted for plotting violence, disorder and criminality on via their websites and services.

The new apps now have their own look that better represent LinkedIn and look less like Facebook’s apps. LinkedIn also has revealed a new HTML 5-enabled mobile site for touch devices.

The new app is claimed to run up to ten times faster, which should make searching for content or checking out friend’s updates much easier. The next big thing about LinkedIn’s app is Groups. Groups was claimed to be the most-requested feature, so now, Groups is available so you can browse discussions and post discussions in different groups.

A twenty year old man was arrested Friday after Essex police discovered the mass water fight plan via BlackBerry Messenger and Facebook. The unnamed man has been charged with “encouraging or assisting the commission of an offence”.

In 2008, several mass water fights in British towns and cities were organized through social networks. Most remained peaceful although the water fights this month among thousands of young Iranians resulted in a series of arrests.

The UK is taking action and even going as far as to meet with representatives from Facebook and BlackBerry maker Research in Motion to discuss prevention of individuals targeted for plotting violence, disorder and criminality on via their websites and services.

Facebook now displays status updates you posted exactly one or two years ago, but don’t worry, they only display on your end and not to your friends. This new feature also allows you to surface photos from the past.

Pseudonyms (fake names) and nicknames create windows of opportunity for spam and trouble to make their way into social networks. Google realizes that to minimalize it as best as possible on their end, real names have to be used while registering each new account.

Google announced that instead of immediately suspending accounts in violation of the policy, Google will give each user a four-day grace period to fix their profile names before the get suspended.

Accusations against Facebook regarding the rumors that they are harvesting user’s phone numbers and making them public are not what Facebook says is happening. The problem is stemming from the “Contacts” feature where after downloading the Facebook mobile app, Facebook will try to sync all of your phone’s contact information with your profile.

So if you are already friends with someone on Facebook and have their same name used on their profile in your phone with their contact information, Facebook will sometimes sync the two contacts. Some smart phones require you to “Link to Facebook” which lets you find the contact’s profile and connect the two.

If you go into your privacy settings on Facebook, you can set whether your phone number should be available or not to your friends.

Twitter has released Twtrland, a new service that converts streams into detailed profiles to try and make it easier for users in deciding who to follow. Friends that you chat with the most and are currently online will now be displayed at the top of your chat list. Following those that you chat with most will be the remaining friends that are online under “more online friends”.  A third section of online friends might populate if any of your friends are accessing Facebook through a mobile app.

The redesigned chat list stretches upwards instead of the old pop-up box everyone hated. Not to mention it actually shows all of your online friends now too.

Messenger is a separate app on your phone, so accessing your messages or sending one is a click away. Messages are delivered through notifications and texts, so your friends are more like to get them right away. Messages can also be sent to your friends whether they are online or not online.

Another cool feature of Messenger is the ability to start a group conversation and message everyone at once. If you choose to add your location, everyone you’re messaging can easily find you on the map. You can also attach photos, which can be viewed by those in the chat and commented on.

To download the app simply look up Facebook Messenger in your app market.

The first tab that Twitter has created replaces the mentions tab and becomes more of a personal notifications dashboard called “@[username]”. The tab includes tweets directed at users, highlight favorite tweets and retweeted tweets as well as include new follower notifications.

The second tab that Twitter has created, the Activity tab, is similar to activity notifications of Facebook’s New Feed.
